We took a wonderful tour of the two Parliament buildings today. The original building, made of marble, is exquisite. The newer one, used for today’s sessions, not so much. It’s called The Beehive by locals, not as a compliment, we guess.
We learned alot about NZ politics. The Press is as busy here hounding politicians for comments as they are in the US. Tomorrow, the excitement is that the Australian Prime Minister is coming to speak before the Parliament.
Trivia: New Zealand was the first country to give women the right to vote. Also, New Zealand is proud to be a nuclear-free environment and has been known to turn away an American nuclear vessel or two from her harbors.
