Port of Wellington

We flew back onto the North Island and into Wellington this afternoon (our Sunday) and spent the rest of the day strolling and getting a lay of the land. We are meeting a guide in the morning but for us, seeing a city on foot is the best first impression.

The port itself is huge, servicing the enormous ferries to the South Island. One ferry didn’t make it in 1968, sank, killing 51. I even asked our travel agent if taking the ferry might be a good experience. We’re glad we flew!

Our driver from the airport said the Crystal and Seaborn Cruise Lines come into port with regularity. We’re hoping to see one tomorrow.
