My New Prius Hybrid Arrived
January 22, 2013
Well, not exactly. This gem, a Ford F350, is the diesel machine of the son who is a motorcycle racer, home to “drop off the trailer for a few days mom” and “by the way mom, expect a delivery of a pallet of oil for me”.
It’s already arrived dear.
Back to the truck, son says it gets remarkably good gas mileage for a beast, but probably not while he’s hauling the trailer. But until he can afford a king size RV to live in while on the road that also carries his motorcycles, the Ford is his reality.

Nice looking rig!
I think I saw (and heard!) this truck in Bedford yesterday! Was he on Route 22 around 3pm? It has a distinct testosterone rumble and that police eye-catching tinted glass. How many times does he get pulled over?
Fie on the Prius. I wouldn’t own one just on principal. Look at all the movie stars in Bedford who talk about being eco-friendly and have a Prius to drive to a benefit but when they think no one is looking, they are in the matching Range Rovers. I have a sensible car (Audi) for our family. I drive sensibly. I recycle. I see no reason why I should drive a Prius. Plus, could they BE any uglier a car?
no argument from me on that point catherine. i live where there are alot of movie stars too; they DO have a prius in the garage….a garage of a half-dozen or more cars!!!
i second cobra…nice rig.
I saw this in my email and I KNEW…. “there is no waaay she has a prius!!!”
That thar is a big ol’ truck
Sooooooooooooooo right!!!!!!
Nice set up, enjoy it while you can. In a few years the picture will probably be of a minivan filled with several tax deductions, pulling a pop-up trailer. Pallet deliveries of disposable diapers will replace the Royal Purple. Grandkids will redefine knee dragging, skid marks and high siding.
I have spend some time shopping for the same “hybrid” rig in Florida. It is one awesome combo for $10K in the land of pick-up plenty.
This one came from Texas, a repo. Kid got a deal and a half. Probably just like in Florida.
I know I’m late to the comment party here, but I just have to ask … why do y’all find it so necessary to trash the Prius? Okay, it’s a car you don’t want to own, but there are many other cars you don’t want to own either.
The answer, I’d guess, is that people make all sorts of assumptions about what Prius drivers are trying to “say” about what they “stand for” with the purchase of this car. Can I ask you to offload this mental freight and just think of it as … A CAR?
Can I offer our household as a reason why? We own a) a Prius, b) a Honda Pilot, c) a 14-year old BMW Z3 M class, and d) a 1971 Mercedes 280 SL The Prius is a comfortable and fuel-efficient ride. When we want other things, we use other cars.
It’s easy to pick one aspect of the way a person presents herself or himself, and hang a whole lot of conclusions as to their “politics” and “values” and “lifestyle” on it. It’s a shorthand that advertisers and news media and the commentariat rely on. And it’s a shame, because much is lost when people are compressed into one dimension this way.
This is meant to be a friendly observation, by the way, not some sort of snarly complaint. I’d enjoy hearing some responses.
Love the title! You’re so funny EOS.
I’ll give your comment a stab Betty. Yes to the Prius owners buying one for making a environmental statement on their sleeve. At least here in Bedford where both EOS and I live. There are many other cars that get as good mileage but the Prius says “I care” or “I want you to think I care” more than any other car. Beyond, in my opinion, the Prius has become the poster boy for hypocrisy. The people I know who own them only trot them out when it is advantageous to do so. I’ve been passed by a zooming Prius more often than I can count as here they are often owned by the entitled crowd.
I’m all for conservation. I’m all for saving gasoline. I’m all for leaving a smaller carbon footprint but my own Audi gets close to 27mpg. I try and combine my chores to be in the car less. I do all the right things so buying a Prius seems ONLY to make a statement. It’s not a bad value to conserve. It’s not a bad value to be conscientious but to me the Prius is much less about either of those than it is making a statement.
None of my immediate friends owns a Prius, maybe because we all have small kids. Most husbands here have a station car, again, no one I know uses a Prius for that. I’m rambling so I’ll quit.
