No Need to Fight Over the Arm Rest!
All of E-I-G-H-T people aboard Flight 1597 tonight from Eagle-Vail to Newark. Our youngest was in Vail all week checking on her condo (okay, we’re not stupid, she was skiing and hanging out with her friends, but we told her to actually check on the condo, even take the tenant out to lunch, and keep the receipts for a good tax deduction!). Her flights via Denver back east Monday were cancelled and United offered this nicer non-stop option for today. It was 90 minutes late in leaving Vail (not from waiting for any late passengers to board!) but land in Newark they did.
But who is going to complain at being late when there’s this Room to stretch out!!!!!!!!!!! This is a flier’s dream scenario. But I am sure United lost their financial shirt.

It’s like a Christmas gift.
(Remember in the old days you could find an empty flight by flying at off hours?) Did she fold up those arm rests and lay across all the seats, or pretend it was her private plane, and feel like a rock star?
I can’t think of a time when I’ve been on such an empty flight, even off hours. If I had to guess, I’d say daughter pretended she was a rock star on her own plane. Dreaming is good!
I’m surprised that United didn’t suddenly develop the airline equivalent of a “diplomatic illness” and cancel the flight due to a “mechanical” issue. But how lucky for your daughter. Been a loooooong time since I have been on a flight that had at least eight EMPTY seats…
I am equally surprised the flight went with do few people but I have to presume United needed to position the plane back in Newark for the throngs of skiers heading to Vail for Christmas.
I am always thrilled when there’s one empty seat on a flight- the middle seat especially so there’s no etiquette issue of who gets which arm rest.
They probably had to move the aircraft anyway to accommodate flight schedules
